Accounting Software and Apple. The great divide

“Apple computers are only for graphic design and arty endeavours”.  “You can’t do your accounts on a Mac”. “I use Microsoft computers as it’s for business”. “We’re a Microsoft house”. “We’ll never need to use a Mac”.  Sure, I can dial in to my RDP to use Windows from my Mac”. “It doesn’t affect me”.….

Sound familiar?

Once upon a time such statements might have been considered true, but critically, today even if you have no interest in the artistic design elements of Apple’s strengths, you still need to consider the Apple conundrum in your move to accounting in the cloud.

Confused……? Let me explain further.

The future is digital. Device and browser independent True-Cloud accounting software designed to truly be device and operating system agnostic. Designed to give you and your colleagues device independence, interoperability, and compatibility with all cloud browsers.

Previously windows-based accounting software couldn’t run natively on a Mac. Apple had a different operating system. It didn’t have Microsoft components. Cloud has changed all that for Apple users, and for Microsoft users too (or it should have).

For those of us of a certain vintage we will possibly remember Dos accounting and the move to Windows accounting. It was such a massive technological jump that it was visibly and tangibly different in how it worked and what it could offer. Such similar mammoth jumps in cloud technology might have slipped under the radar for many businesses as they are more subtle for the end-user, yet critical for your usage.

But cloud is cloud, right?  Well not really….

Web 1.0 (where it all started), Web 2.0 (where we are currently exiting), and Web 3.0 (where we are going) has a much greater impact on your future business digital strategy and cloud choices than you might think.

Whilst cloud business software is but a small part of the Metaverse and future of the cloud, we do benefit from its advances. Remember when early web pages or web software dictated what browser you had to use even if it was outdated or wasn’t approved by your IT department? True Cloud and BYOD (bring your own device) changed that for the better. It is now fully expected for all aspects of your cloud software to work anywhere in the cloud – not just on Microsoft Explorer or other select browsers.

Web 2.0 and 3.0 leaves behind the legacy cloud development restrictions and hybrid cloud and encourages True-Cloud application development. These are truly and uncompromisingly applications being designed without being tied to one internet browser, or without being limited in the operating systems, or devices that it can support.

True-Cloud means that users of such software should be able to connect to their accounting software from any computer, Apple or Windows, or any tablet, device, or smart phone, and running any modern browser without proprietary restrictions or limitations, and without hosted or local servers or components.

It is the difference between legacy cloud development and the latest in cloud development with a new enlightened approach to ensure interoperability with the latest browser technology and a view to ensuring cloud isn’t limited by design or 3rd party components being discontinued.

Integration of Microsoft Office 365 online or even local Excel versions are now possible, regardless of your computer or device.

Apple users, your pain, and struggles over the decades with accounting software, are no more. Your sacrifice has helped pioneer the latest device agnostic solutions. The days of having an Apple house, or a Microsoft house are confined to history. True-Cloud is here and waiting for you to adopt.

For non-Apple users, understanding these benefits and restrictions are still critical when researching the plethora of “SoSaaS Cloud”, “hybrid Cloud” “Cloud” and “True-Cloud” industry pronouncements.
